Categories : Listening to Each Other Listening to God

If you have little people in your life, you probably repeat yourself A LOT (if you don’t, I need to know your secret!).  During these last few months of constant transition, I’ve found myself saying a few sentences over and over.  Here are some of them:

“Please stay on the path and follow your Abba.  He knows where we’re going.”

“I’ve never lied to you.  Why don’t you trust me?”

“Don’t worry about that.  I’ll take care of it.”

“You need to obey right now.  I’ll explain everything soon.”

“When you want something, just ask.”

“Trust me, I’ve done this before.”

“Please stop talking so you can hear what I’m saying to you.”

Seeing them written down like this, it’s obvious that trust is a major issue right now.  And it’s not enough for our kids to trust us in an abstract way.  We’ve repeatedly asked them to pack up everything, get on a bus/plane/boat/train, and go with us to an unknown city/country/island.   We’re asking them to trust AND act accordingly.

This is woven into the cultural fabric of the Gospel. When Yeshua taught about faith, his audience understood that he wasn’t talking about agreeing with an idea.  Just as the Hebrew word for ‘listen’ means “listen and act on what you hear”, the Hebrew concept of  ‘faith’ includes deciding and acting on what you decide.

But what if God was saying the same things to me?  Would I be insulted by how “simple” these instructions sound?  Am I ready to act according to the trust that I profess?listentextListen to what you say to your kids over and over again.  What if God said that to you?

How would it change how you talk to your kids?

How would that change your relationship with God?
