There’s a joke that every Biblical Holiday can be summed up like this:

They tried to kill us.

We won.

Let’s eat.

It’s actually pretty accurate. Read the history of Passover and you’ll notice it starts with death threats, and ends with a lamb roast.  Hanukkah starts with  guerrilla warfare and ends with doughnuts.  And Purim, which we’re celebrating now, starts with a plan to exterminate God’s people, and ends with cookies, chocolates, and wine (You can read more about Purim here). Know what my response to all this was at first?

“That’s not very spiritual“.

For a long time, I dismissed this part of the holidays as “trivial”, and dove head first into the “deeper meaning”.But when I spent some time meditating on what God has done for me in preparation for this celebration, there was one thought I couldn’t get out of my head:

I was so wrong.

Here’s what I realized: Whoever you are, you have an enemy who wanted to kill, steal and destroy your life. He tried to kill us. Every single one of us.

No matter what you’re going through, your complete victory has already been purchased. We won. In spite of what your senses or your circumstances may tell you, this is already true.

But the victory is meaningless unless we take it in and make it part of us.  If it’s true that we are what we eat, then Let’s eat.

God’s faithfulness, provision and miracles aren’t just for other people, wearing funny hats, living long ago and far away.  Miracles  are for you, today.  They are so real, you can taste them. In fact, by tasting them, they become more real, because your senses can now agree with what your spirit already knows.

tastethemiracleBecause you’re body, soul, and spirit, He gave you celebrations that are about deliverance…and wine.  Redemption…and roast. Courage…and doughnuts.  This isn’t trivial. God wants all of you to be all in. This is your invitation to enter into the story, or not.

So let’s eat.

What truth does God want you to take in and digest more fully today? Tweet That!
